Top 10 Bollywood Films of 2016

2016 is the year many good and bad bollywood movies just like 2015 and 2014.. But this year most of successful movies are fulfilling gender equity and women empowerment. In last two months many films didn’t collect much money in box office as it get affected by demonitization fo Indian currency notes.

There were many unpredictable successful films like Pink and MS Dhoni The Untold Story and disaster sequels of super hit films of which people had many  expectations with like Kahani 2, Raaz Reboot and Rock On 2. So here are top 10 countdown for bollywood 2016.

10. Wazir (IMDb 7.2)

Wazir is a tale of two unlikely friends, a wheelchair-bound chess grandmaster (Amitabh Bachhan) and a brave ATS officer (Frahan Akhtar). Brought together by grief and a strange twist of fate, the two men decide to help each other win the biggest games of their lives.
The movie is set on impressive thrilling theme on the game of chess, great direction work by Bejoy Nambiar under the production of prestigious Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

It is a story about women set in the heart of parched rural village of Rajasthan. It traces the bittersweet tale of four ordinary women with rebel against inequality and injustice towards thier patrchial society and thier lame rules. a widower Rani (Tannishtha Chatterjee), so called infertile Lajjo (Radhika Apte), stage dancer Bijli (Surveen Chawala) and a teen daughter in law Janaki (Leher Khan).

It’s a court room drame of three female protagonists of ‘Pink’ are next door ubran young women of Delhi. Minal (Taapsee Pannu) is an events manager, whose work can extend into the late hours. Falak (Kirti Kulhari) works in a corporate set-up where image is all. Andrea (Tariang) is from North Easter state Meghalaya of what people don’t mean is from India.  The story moves around a criminal case against these girls of which society judge for not being stereotypical women advocated by retired lawayer Deepak Sehgal (Amitabh Bacchan).

7. Aitlift (IMDb 8.3)

It is the true story of Indians stranded in Kuwait during this traumatic time in the year 1990. A story of how they, with the help of Ranjit Katyal (Akshya Kumar), managed to survive the Iraqi invasion, and against all odds traveled a thousand kilometers across the border into Amman, Jordan. This brings out the true patriotism among anyone someone who doesn’t belong the homeland but still love to it.

Fan is a psychological thriller about Gaurav Chandna (Shahrukh Khan) a Delhi based die-hard and obsessive fan of Bollywood superstar Aryan Khanna (also Shahrukh Khan); Aryan is Gaurav’s whole life. Gaurav’s face bears an uncanny similarity to Aryan’s, which helps him win the local talent show. He then embarks on a journey to meet Aryan in person until his love turns hate towards his everything Aryan as he gets obsessive to get an apology from Arynan towards his rude behavior for this he plans to destory everything what made him his fan.

Neerja is the story of a 22 year old courageous woman Neerja Bhanot (Sonam Kapoor), who sacrificed her life while protecting the lives of 359 passengers on the Pan Am flight 73 in 1986. The flight was hijacked by a terrorist organization. The story moves around fash backs of her personal life, her bad marriage and its struggles and how she manages to keep the passengers, specially kids safe.

4. Raman Raghav 2.0 (IMDb 7.4)

Another great psychological thriller inspired on the life of notorious serial killer Raman Raghav who operated in Mumbai during the mid-1960s.  Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the role of Ramanna, a psycho serial killer, while Vicky Kaushal plays Raghavan Singh, a bad cop assigned to investigate the serial killings. The story moves around how Ramanna kill people for no motive and wants to meet inspector Raghav for his rest his soul. The film get round of applause in Cannes Film festive and many other film festivals.

3. Dear Zindagi (IMDb 8.3)

Dear Zindagi is the coming of the age drama film written and directed brilliantly by Gauri Shinde. The story is about Kiara (Aliya Bhatt) who suffers from clinical depression after going through serial casual relationships who seeks help with a prestigious psychologist Dr. Jahangeer Khan (Shahrukh Khan). The movie gives a  very mature lessons about the meaning of life and relationship like Don’t let your past life blackmail your present to ruin your future.

2. Kapoor & Sons and Udta Punjab (Both IMDb 7.9)
Here is tie for the runner up of 2016 best bollywood movie.

So first I will start with Kapoor & Sons as it came earlier.

It is a story about a disputed family of two brothers Arjun (Siddharth Malhotra) and Rahul (Fawad Khan) who return home to visit their ailing grandfather (Rishi Kapoor). Amidst numerous ongoing family problems, emotions get intensified between the brothers regarding a girl Tia Malik (Aliya Bhatt), egos of career and cheating in marriage between and their father (Rajat Kapoor) and mother (Ratna Pathak).

Udta Punjab is a based on drug abuse in the Indian state of Punjab. There are 3 stories that runs separately in the film and somehow get linked in the end. First is the story of a corrupt constable Sartaj Singh (Diljith Dosanjh) who deals with his younger brother habit of drug abuse as he gets hospitalized and treated by Dr. Preet (Kareena Kapoor). Both doctor and him go for the search of the drug lords. Second is the story of junkie popstar Tommy Singh (Shahid Kapur) who deals with inflation of his career due to drug issues.
Third is the story of Bihari farm labour Pinky (Aliya Bhatt) who mistakenly finds drugs in the farmland and goes to dark world of drugs after getting kidnapped by thugs.

Dangal is an extraordinary true story based on the life of Mahavir Singh (Aamir Khan) and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film traces the inspirational journey of a father who trains his daughters to become gold medal wrestlers and earn respect among people. It shows the struggle how can a father make his daughters anything in the world with will power. The movie is marvelously directed by Nitish Tiwari with a beautiful theme of gender equality. It’s a true disney film with a lot of family values and morals. The action scenes of wrestling are so realistic and can give you adrenaline rush.
